Planning for Agriculture

Course Description:

Join us at 10:00 AM on November 19 for a webinar discussing the importance of planning for agriculture. Often, when we think about planning we are concerned with the placement of future residential development, yet agriculture plays a vital role in the local economies of numerous counties and towns around the state. Sam Tobias, Director of Fond du Lac County Planning and Development, Ken Jaworksi, Vice President of Planning and Environmental Services at Martenson & Eisele, and Charlie Handy, La Crosse County Planner, will discuss their experiences planning for the future of agriculture. They will provide their perspectives on how acknowledging the role that agriculture plays in the local economy can help inform planning decisions for a county’s future; how involving local agriculture professionals is essential to the planning process; and how considering an accurate picture of residential development needs can help facilitate a more meaningful planning effort. We will also be joined by Julia Freedgood from American Farmland Trust who will offer a national perspective on planning for agriculture.
