Conservation in Karst Landscapes/Highly Permeable Soils - Chilton, WI, 10/2/14

Course Description:

The carbonate bedrock and highly permeable sandy soils that underlay a significant portion of Wisconsin's agricultural production areas present unique challenges. Sinkholes, low filtering shallow soils, closed depressions and fracture traces increase the challenge of protecting Wisconsin's groundwater.

This one day introductory classroom course will begin in Room 301 at the Chilton Courthouse at 206 Court Street and end with in-field work. Topics covered include recognizing sensitive features in the landscape, online tools for mapping and finding features, understanding the science of groundwater movement and infiltration in these situations. Designed for agency staff, the session will also be beneficial for consultants and others working with livestock operations.
