In addition to this conference, there is a great opportunity for conservation staff to participate in a workgroup and round table discussion with members of the NRCS National Soil Health Division. Meeting rooms and lunches will be provided by WI Land+Water and the State Interagency Training Committee (SITCOM).
When: 10:00 to 2:00p.m.
Where: Monday, February 26th—Madison, Ag & Conservation Center/USDA Service Center, Room 121, 5201 Fen Oak Drive
Wednesday, February 28th—Marshfield, UW Marshfield Ag Research Station, 2611 Yellowstone Drive (In Marshfield at the WI Soil Lab Testing Facility NOT at the Statford facility)
Barry Fisher and Justin Morris from the NRCS National Soil Health Division will be leading the discussions. Topics may include: Making soil health work in your local program, how to “sell” soil health to producers in your area and provide a forum to share success stories of soil health systems that have been implemented in other regions of the country. Additionally, specific technical information will be shared pertaining to the challenges faced when converting from conventional systems to no-till as well as the incorporation of cover crops.
This forum will allow for a more in-depth discussion and further address questions, concerns and barriers that conservation staff encounter when discussing and implementing soil health principles. Included in the registration is an opportunity to provide suggestions for topics as well as any questions you would like to pose, both of which may be incorporated in the discussions.
